In a fit of "What the hell was that all about?", I decided I was going to make the banner for Mason's birthday. I got the idea here (there's a tutorial there for the perusing pleasure of any interested parties), and my result turned out generally the same, though I altered some of the techniques and materials to use up what was sitting in my stash. That's right - I didn't buy one single new thing for this little project. Can I get a WOOT? And it didn't take that long, and it was crazy simple, and I am crazy prouder of myself than I should be (and yes, I am aware of the non-word status of "prouder". You should probably call Webster on me right now.). Here's a closer-up shot:
I plan to laminate all the individual pieces, so it can be saved and reused indefinitely. I like to think the birthday girl approved, but she seemed preoccupied by her princess tiara:
Or possibly it was her pretty cake, which I absolutely did not make:
As I've said before (though not here, I don't think)... I cook, I don't bake. I'd like to change that - I'd like to bake some simple things, and I know it would certainly thrill my family. But I'm pretty sure I don't have the steady hand required for cake decoration. I'll be outsourcing that job for many years to come, I can assure you.
