Look, a meme! I've never done one of these before, and was "tagged" by exactly nobody, but I figure it's a nice writing exercise. This is courtesy of Sundry Mourning, though I first spotted it at Whoorl.
1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
Took 2 children under 3 to the grocery store. And on an airplane. And survived.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any. I was too full of woe being on bedrest and generally miserable while I waited for Mason to show up. I have a few in mind for this year, but feel I need to pare it down and make it manageable.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Three cousins and three good friends. I haven't gotten to meet all the babies yet.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
A close friend of a close friend, who was a casual friend to me. Cancer, died on Thansgiving night. And a little girl in my neighborhood, whom I had never met, yet I still spent an afternoon crying over it.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, but I did get my first ever passport!
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A perfectly organized pantry that will stay organized. How BORING. How about world peace?
7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
February 8th, my daughter's birthday.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Taking two children under 3 to the grocery store, and then voluntarily doing it again. Otherwise known as learning to function as a mother of two. And I started this here little blog, and I haven't given up on it yet. So that's something.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Having too many frustrations and doubts about my ability to be a mother of two (see how it all comes back to that?). Being too hard on myself about those frustrations and doubts. Wasting time.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope. Just gave birth, and that went easier than last time.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A Wii, I think.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My son, Riley. He's made huge leaps this year.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I'm very happy that I can't think of an answer to this.
14. Where did most of your money go?
I'd have to ask Marc. Mostly the usual suspects - mortgage, stuff for two kids. "Tuition".
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Seeing Better Than Ezra live for the first time in New Orleans.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Let's Get It Started", by the Black Eyed Peas. I have listened to that song more times than should be legal.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
Happier, thinner, and probably richer! That's a huge perspective builder, right there.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Scrapbooking.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Dishes.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
My parents came here from CO. My sister, sadly, couldn't join us. It was a whirlwind of party, wrap, open, cook, sleep, drink, not sleep, eat, take out trash. Pretty awesome, though.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Does Chuck count? (See #22).
22. What was your favorite TV program?
I think Chuck qualifies as my favorite new program. I'll always love Jeopardy.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No, thank goodness.
24. What was the best book you read?
I didn't get to read as much as I used to. I suppose the seventh Harry Potter, despite it not being my favorite of the series, for it's enormity and the anticipation that went with it. I also really liked Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. That's probably the one that got me thinking the most. I wish I had a cooler answer for this question.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Wilco. And Rhapsody. I love my Rhapsody.
26. What did you want and get?
A new lens for my camera that makes me feel all pro-like.
27. What did you want and not get?
My Abbey Road poster for above my desk. I'll have to go buy it myself.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
"Across the Universe", I think.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Marc threw me a really fun surprise party. I'm 33.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Losing more baby weight.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Down with all maternity clothes. Except you, stretchy yet ugly and ill-fitting track pants. I'll keep you. I just promise to not wear you to the store anymore.
32. What kept you sane?
Dora the Explorer.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I can't think of anyone. I think this pleases me almost as much as my answers to #13 and #23.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't think "stirred" is the right word. But I'm most bothered, I think, by partisan politics and the preconceptions and stereotypes that have come out of it.
35. Who did you miss?
My parents and sister.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
Mason Angelina, born February 8th, 2007.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
Don't try to do too much - it only sets you up for failure. Leave the baby gate at the top of the stairs closed until the kids are at least 18.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"Can you feel? Could you love? Are you further now from where you started? I bet you do enough just to get by, dontcha?" "Briefly", Better Than Ezra.
