Poooor neglected blog. I didn't forget about you, I swear. Just needed a little time away.
So, Thanksgiving! It was here, now it's gone, and it's time to move on to Christmas. It was great - we headed to Colorado, and my kids continue to impress me with their overall travel skills, while I contine to impress myself just a little by thinking that I have something to do with it. (I don't - it's ALL about the portable DVD player.) (Speaking of the DVD player, this theory was tested about 45 minutes into our return flight when the DVD battery inexplicably died. Marc and I looked at each other in mild panic and I briefly considered throwing myself out the emergency exit, but then calmness prevailed and we decided to see how it would play out. And here we are, still alive. Mostly.) I hung out with my family, and we ate a lot, and the kids got sick, and then my sister and I went to see Across The Universe. It was good to go see it with my sister, both because it's nice to hang out with her but also because Marc would never in a million years go see it with me, and wouldn't even be all that thrilled about a rental. Apparently he's still scarred from when I made him submit to Sgt. Pepper's. His loss. Anyway, though the movie was hardly perfect, I still really liked it a lot. I decided to hold off on saying I loved it until I let it sit for a while, and see how often my mind went back to it. One thing that was great about it was it really personified the Beatles' music - it was, at various times, poppy, sad, trippy, creepy, funny, just plain weird and then completely brilliant. Actually, I can't wait to see it again. Yeah, I think maybe I loved it.
And now, here we are, home again. Fighting stomach bugs (nice!) but God I was SO HAPPY to be in my bed this morning. You know you've got yourself a good bed when you want to embrace it after being apart for a few days. I spent the day (yes, the DAY) going to the grocery store and then cleaning out my refrigerator. What? Doesn't everybody take an entire day to clean their refrigerator? Oh, right. Just the moms with babies who are learning to cruise. Ok, then. Honestly, I refrigerated the entire neighborhood today with how often I left the thing standing open. I can feel my dad, 1700 miles away, being so proud.
Hey, doesn't this seem like a great time to post some Thanksgiving photos? Yeah, I know! But of course I did not bring my CF card down here with me, seeing as it's still in the camera bag that has yet to be unpacked, so that's not going to happen. What will happen is I might post some next time, or maybe next July. Who can say? Because I obviously have not yet learned the valuable art of timeliness. Must get to work on that.
